I’ve heard of (from Marcel Heyne of URIDU) and read about KaiOS smart feature phones. Excited about that, I’m very enthusiastic about exploring how PIECHARTS can help rural women and youth (starting from Ezimo community in Enugu State where PIECHARTS had made community-approved sensitization and will be working to help residents know about, access and utilize online and printed knowledge that can improve their health, literacy/education, work, income, community and overall wellbeing. I’m passionate particularly about translating into mother tongues (for which I’d volunteered for URIDU’s Audiopedia initiative) and making the translated knowledge available on memory cards and flash disks that rural people can play on the compatible radio set that is being owned by many persons and also on compatible feature phones. Because of absence of or unreliable electricity and cost of batteries, I’m dreaming of solar-powered mp3 players, as they will be more popular when available.
It’s my focus also to be publishing nuggets (as flyers, handbills and pamphlets) of translated free-to-share information, which literate children and adults can easily read and with which PIECHARTS will be holding reading and discussion forums in villages.
